Valerie C. Woods is a writer/producer in television and film, and is also a publisher, editor and author. Valerie is also a member of the faculty of the Stephens College MFA TV & Screenwriting 2016 program as a screenwriting mentor. A former ABC/Walt Disney Screenwriting Fellow, Valerie is currently in development on the screen adaptation of the novel Tempest Rising by Diane McKinney-Whetstone, for the production company of actor/director Phylicia Rashad. Valerie is also a Co-Executive Producer/writer for the OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network) mini-series “Tulsa.”
This year, Valerie is producing a new venture – Staged/Lit – a series of staged readings of scripts adapted from literary work. The first two readings were television pilots adapted from a memoir and a novel. The series is co-sponsored by The Los Angeles Performing Arts Conservatory and Syd Field – The Art of Visual Storytelling organization.
Valerie is also the founder of the independent press, BooksEndependent LLC whose mission is to publish (via ebooks and print) a maximum of 2-3 titles of new and established writers annually. The press now represents four authors and has published five titles, including Valerie’s girl detective novel, Katrin’s Chronicles: The Canon of Jacqueléne Dyanne. She is also the author of Something for Everyone (50 Original Monologues), which is published by Samuel French, Inc.
During Valerie’s 20+ years as a member of WGAw, she has written on one-hour drama series for CBS, Lifetime, and Showtime. Credits include Co-Executive Producer/Writer on the drama series, Any Day Now on Lifetime Network. Her episode “Family is Family” was nominated for a GLAAD Media Award, and Consulting Producer/Writer for the drama series, Soul Food on Showtime Network.
